DIY (Do-It-Yourself) divorce or divorce without a lawyer has been very common these days. Most of the information about having divorce and the application process are found online. You can even download, fill out, and file free divorce papers using the Internet.

Most people think that having divorce without a lawyer is too complicated. It would be difficult for couples to do the whole process without legal representation. These days, divorces are getting expensive and most people who are having divorce feel that they cannot afford the services of the lawyer. With the economy today, most couples having divorce are resorting to self-representation or DIY divorce.

However, you cannot always do divorce without a lawyer. There are matters and cases that should be handled by the lawyer. It is only possible to have self-representation if the divorce is in good nature and the couple both agreed about the division of assets. You can also file the divorce papers and represent yourselves in the court if there are no children. There is a need to hire an attorney if there are issues with child custody.

Even if there are consequences in having DIY divorce, most people are choosing it as an option. If you are sure about it, you must first understand the conditions before processing your divorce. Remember that both parties should file for DIY divorce and none if them is in military. Both parties should not question the demands from the other party because they have agreed in the terms and conditions they both established.

The couple must not have children. If it happens that there are children, they should be of legal age and they are not connected with the case. There must be no other cases included such as payment of debts, bankruptcy, as well as physical and mental abuse. Both of them should have the ability to sustain themselves after the divorce. This will prevent alimony or cases about financial support. Both parties should also agree in the division of assets.

If you are not confident in having DIY divorce but you cannot afford the services of the lawyer due to financial reasons, you can always ask for help. There are law schools with legal clinics and they provide assistance in the preparation of forms and divorce papers. They can help you by reviewing your paperwork to make sure that you are in the right way. This is what most people consider today. You can save time, money, and effort.

Having divorce yourself does not resolve issues about alimony and property distribution claims. It only aims to obtain divorce and no to resolve financial issues. You should not resort to DIY divorce if you are not prepared and you do not understand the terms and conditions. Also consider that not all the forms and procedures found online are applicable to you. Contact the divorce lawyer if you do not understand DIY divorce and if you have questions about the issue in having divorce.
