Meditation Chair and Stools

One of the main focuses of meditation is relaxation. How you do this comfortably is up to you. However you need good posture for meditation, which means no slouching or hunching. This will help for you to breathe correctly while meditating.

When you sit on a stool your body can’t rest up against something so it will have to keep itself up. This is good practice in keeping good posture. However it may be difficult at first if you are not used to meditating on a stool. Be careful with a stool however, if you happen to get to relaxed and fall asleep by accident you may fall off.

A recliner or lazy chair is a good way to relax and start a meditation, however breathing can be inhibited by how you sit in the chair. Some chairs will almost feel like it is sucking you in and will cause some back pain if you aren’t sitting correctly. Finding a nice chair which is firm and yet soft will greatly help if you plan on sitting in a chair for meditation. You may fall asleep however if it is too relaxing.

Try meditating on both a chair and a stool, find out which one works better and is more comfortable for you. Try different meditations with each, some meditations require you to stand. Finding what works will make your meditation even better for you. Just be sure to find something that won’t hinder your breathing or cause you pain. If you have back pain because you are sitting up straight it is probably because you are over doing it. Relax, and let your body sit in an upright position naturally. When there is pain or discomfort it will be increasingly difficult for you to meditate because your mind is concentrating more on the pain than to relax.
