Meditation Hand Positions and Postures

Many meditations use some sort of hand posture that represents something. The hand postures in Chakra meditation represent the individual chakras and mudras in Buddhism explain the different. To begin we will start with the Chakra hand gestures from the root chakra all the way to the crown chakra. These mudras will help to unlock each chakra.
A tip for pronouncing the mantras, A is pronounced as “ah” and M is pronounced as “mng”.
The Root Chakra
Allow the tips of your index finger and thumb to touch, such as a relaxed “Ok” hand gesture.
Concentrate on the Root Chakra in the spot between the anus and genitals.
Use the mantra “LAM”
The Sacral Chakra
Let your hands rest in your lap with one hand resting on the others palm. Left hand is placed underneath and the palm touches the fingers of the right hand, the tips of the thumbs touch gently.
Concentrate on the Sacral Chakra located near the lower back.
Use the mantra “VAM”
The Navel Chakra
Place your hands near your navel, fingers pointing forward with tips touching. Cross the thumbs on tops, remember the fingers need to be straight.
Concentrate on the Navel Chakra located just about your navel on your spine.
Use the mantra “RAM”
The Heart Chakra
Sit cross legged, allow the tips of your index finger and thumb to touch. Place the left hand facing down on your left knee with your right hand in front of the bottom of your rib cage.
Concentrate on the Heart Chakra located on the spine the same level as the heart.
Use the mantra “YAM”
The Throat Chakra
Cross your fingers inside your hands, allowing the tips of the thumbs to touch at the top and pull up slightly.
Concentrate on the Throat Chakra located on the base of your throat.
Use the mantra “HAM”
The Third Eye Chakra
Place your hands at the lower part of your breast, the middle fingers touch at the tips while the back of the other fingers touch one another. The thumbs point towards you and touch at the tips.
Concentrate on the Third Eye Chakra locate a bit about your eyebrows.
Use the mantra “OM” or “AUM”
The Crown Chakra
Place your hands in front of your stomach, let your ring fingers point up and touch at the tips. Cross the rest of your fingers with your left thumb below your right thumb.
Concentrate on the Crown Chakra located at the top of your skull.
Use the mantra “NG”
Caution: Don’t do this if you haven’t opened and grounded your root chakra.
