Meditation Seat, Cushions, and Pillows

During meditation you may feel your lower back start to ache and break your concentration. This is mostly due to how you are sitting and what you are sitting on. If you tend to sit on a floor during meditation then it is more likely that your back will spasm every now and then. If you sit on something with a little cushion to it then this won’t be the case.

A cheap and effective way to use a good seat for meditation is to take a couple of long towels and roll them into bundles and lay them side by side to help support your back. This beats having to break out some money if you don’t really have it to spare. Another good way is to use a couch or stool cushion, this provides with a little more cushion and is somewhat more comfortable then the towels. It will still provide the necessary balance and support for your back.

Next is a pillow, any pillow can do, it just needs to be firm enough in that you don’t sink into the pillow when you sit on it. Couch pillows would be good if you didn’t want to use the pillow you sleep on, that and people will generally throw the pillows out of the way so no one would hardly use the couch pillows.

It depends on what meditation you are doing and exactly where you need the support. If you happen to be meditating in half lotus or full lotus position then you might want to use the towel seat or a cushion. To kill two birds with one stone you could just sit on your couch cross legged or however you sit for meditation and you will have already got support and balance.
