Meditation Timers

When reading about meditation online you will often see some sort of end time. A good timer to use would be a kitchen timer. However really any timer could be used, if your watch has one you could use that, or if you have a clock in the room you could have it set to “wake” you from meditation. Keeping track of how long you meditate is good, but worrying about how long you’ve been sitting their meditating will end up breaking your concentration.

The best way to time yourself it too look at the clock before you meditate, meditate, then look back at the clock to see how long you have been meditating for. Worrying about what time it is doesn’t help the meditation. So being able to just see what time it is and meditate till you feel it is comfortable to stop is probably the best route to go for your meditation to be a good one. You can still use the kitchen timer this way you won’t have to worry about the time at all and something else will keep a track of it for you.

Some people can look at a clock and before meditation say in their mind something like “Stop meditating around 5:30” and will actually stop around the time they specified. The body has its own internal clock which is generally used to tell you when to sleep, etc. This skill can also be used when you go to bed and you need to get up early.

We live in a hectic world that is constantly rushed, and if meditation is rushed then you don’t gain any benefits. Taking the time to calm down and to sit and meditate will make the day go by quicker than you think. Allow your mind not to be burdened by the stresses of the modern world.
