Hello people,

Today i will share in this lesson, a guide to protein shake that will answer some of your questions. Protein shake is one of the most popular and well known supplements. Now, let me explain to you it's benefits.

Firstly, protein is responsible for our muscle growths. That is why you will hear people saying, "Protein is the building block of muscles". Protein is made up of amino acids and they are responsible for building and maintaining of our muscles. However, why do people say that supplements are not necessary for muscle growth? Protein is not only available through protein shakes. Foods like fish, eggs and red meat are naturally high in protein and if you often include them in your diet, you do not need to take protein powders.

How much protein is required?

According to many experienced bodybuilders, you need to take in 1 to 2 grams of protein per pound of your weight. Example, you will need to take in 150-300grams of protein a day if you are 150 pounds in weight. Do not rely fully on protein powders for your daily requirements. Instead, try to include foods that are rich in protein in your diet.

Are protein powders harmful to health?

No, protein powders are not harmful to health. Similarly, protein is not harmful to your body. Protein helps in the production of red blood cells and help upkeep our immunity system. However, all foods should be taken in moderation. An overdose of protein can cause kidney problems. Also, try to look for protein powders with less artificial sweeteners.

I hope you have learnt more about protein supplements in this lesson. Proteins should be taken daily either in the form of food or supplements. However, do proper studies before you decide which protein supplements to purchase. Some companies produce low grade proteins that are well marketed. Go for the brands with better reputation as the extra price will be worth it!
