Ways and Methods to Stop Smoking Cigarettes
If there are 20 people in a room who smoke, there are 20 ways to stop smoking. Everyone has different ways of dealing with a matter, and not all ways work for all people. If you smoke, you have your own reasons for doing so, such as:
- Stress in your life
- Addiction to nicotine
- It relaxes you
- Boredom

These are just some reasons why people smoke. I heard someone say "I enjoy my cigarettes." Yes, there are lots of reason why people smoke. If you wanted to quit, what if there were hundreds of options to help you do that? Out of all the options available, surely one or two of them would work for you. Even a combination of several may do the trick in helping you to successfully kick the habit. Lets look at some of those ways.
Ways to stop:
Do you believe in a higher power, someone bigger than yourself? Many people do and can use this method to help you stop smoking. Prayer changes things and if you believe, you can rely on your higher power to help you quit smoking.
Acupuncture or Acupressure: Involves inserting fine needles, or applying pressure to pressure points of the body. I can personally attest to the benefits of acupuncture, having used it for a super-duper painful bulging disc in my back. Yes! it works!
Aversion Therapy: Smoke a mouthful of cigarettes. One user tried this and stated the taste was so bad they never did it again.
Chewing Gum: Chewing has helped many take their mind of the craving for nicotine.
Cold Turkey: See yourself as a non smoker instead of a smoker trying to quit. One person changed to a menthol brands a week before quitting. He didn't like the taste of menthol and was able to stop smoking altogether.
Commercial Options:
- Nicoderm CQ
- Nicotine Gum
- Nicotine Inhaler
- Nicotine Lozenge
- Nicotine Patch
- Nicotrol Nicotine Inhaler
It should be noted that while using these products, you can NOT smoke at all. Not even a little bit. Heart attacks have been reported in some cases of people who smoked while using these products.
I have heard it said that drinking lots of water while quitting smoking helps to remove nicotine from your system. While this makes sense, nicotine is gone from the body after about 2 days any way.
Another way to stop smoking is to stay away from others who smoke. Changing the location of where you smoke has helped others as well.
As you can see, there a a multitude of ways to kick the smoking habit. There are too many ways to actually list here, but maybe this little list will help someone to finally make the decision to stop smoking for the health benefits that can be gained.
